My story is about “going where you are rare…”
In August 2019, I left my job as the Director of Global Partnerships and Operations at an AI startup over my concerns with the development of facial recognition technology. Having confronted the weaponization of technology square in the face, I sought to understand the policy gaps that made such “innovation” possible. Once I understood that the issues were structural, I realized I needed a new theory of change.
While I still believe in the transformative power of technology and platforms, I know firsthand that, left unchecked, these tools can easily become weapons. My goal now is to repurpose my decade-long career in the tech industry to helping address the tech-gap within government. In doing so, I hope to also address the power imbalance that arises from information asymmetry between the private and public sectors.

Currently I’m a Senior Advisor on the CHIPS for America team at the Department of Commerce. Previously I was a product manager at 18F and served as a detailee in the House of Representatives with the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress.
I cut my teeth as a technologist at Google, where I worked as a data analyst for Chrome (before it overtook Internet Explorer) and strategist for Google Glass (when it was a thing). I also spent 4 years based in Kenya leading new markets and products on a Pan-African broadband project that is now called CSquared.

I got to where I am through the support and guidance of others, and firmly believe in paying it forward. I look forward to meeting people interested in transitioning their careers, and those also working at the intersections of technology, government, and policy.
